A BRADFORD hotel worker has smashed her fundraising target after raising almost £400 for Cancer Research UK.
Kathy O’Hare, deputy general manager of The Campanile Hotel, on the Euroway Industrial Estate, took part in the 5k Race for Life Wirral Race for Life at Birkenhead Park, Wirral, and hoped to raise £200 for the charity after losing close family members and friends to cancer.
Kathy said: “After wanting to get a little fitter, I decided to do the Couch to 5K and started in March.
“Although I knew this was going to be tough enough, I decided I needed to have something to look forward to.
“Cancer has been a massive part of my life, due to losing my mother, father, brother, grandparents, cousins, and friends, so what better way to help raise some money than to take part in the Race for Life. I gave myself just a little over a month and a half to train and fundraise.
“After all the hard work and training I managed to finish the 5k in just under 35 minutes, which isn’t bad for a beginner. Next year I am hoping to take part in the 10k.”
