MEMBERS of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community volunteered to prepare meals for the needy in Bradford.

A group of around 30 people were served hot meals at the Orchard Day Shelter on Leeds Road. The meals were prepared by Dr Abid Ahmad, his wife Mufleha Ahmad and Maham Malik.

Dr Ahmad said: "We were all delighted to help.

As Muslims we believe in promoting goodwill, harmony, and peace in our community with everyone, irrespective of their faith, ethnicity or background

“This resonates with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community motto of love for all and hatred for none.

“Love of our country and community is part of our faith and hence we are happy to assist people wherever we can."

He added: “The teachings of the Holy Qur’an state that who so gives life to one person, it is as if he has given life to all mankind.

“This stresses the importance of helping individuals who are less fortunate than ourselves.”

Jeanette Lees, service manager at the Day shelter, said: “Today it has been informed to the local people that a free meal, which is a gift to the community, is being offered to the needy in our local community.

“We are so grateful to you for volunteering your time and effort to prepare these meals.”

Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community plan to continue to prepare meals on a monthly basis at the day shelter.
