A POPULAR film and TV actress has backed Bradford to be named City of Culture 2025.

Miriam Margolyes, who starred as Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter film franchise, has thrown her support behind the city’s bid.

In an audio clip posted by former Bradford councillor Richard Dunbar, the actor said: “ I would be thrilled if Bradford was city of culture. It would open people’s eyes!”

The actor’s support has been backed by a number of people and groups with associations with Bradford.

Bradford will discover if it has been named the City of Culture in a special edition of BBC One’s The One Show on Tuesday, May 31.

West Yorkshire Mayor and former Batley and Spen MP Tracy Brabin tweeted: Dear Miriam Margolyes. Thank you. Love, The North.”

 

Miriam becomes the latest famous name to endorse Bradford’s City of Culture 2025 bid. Others have included former Bradford City player and manager Chris Kamara, Liversedge-born WWE wrestler Luke ‘Ridge Holland’ Menzies and Location, Location, Location TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp.
