TWO UKRAINIAN refugees are set to receive a warm welcome in Bradford thanks to a local school.

Lubnya, 43 and Vladamir, 15 are due to arrive in Bradford in June after fleeing from the war in Ukraine.

And their second cousins, Louise and Tatiana Bastow, who live in the BD2 area have been preparing for their relatives’ arrival, but say they couldn’t have done it without the help of Hanson School.

“I just want to say a huge thank you to Hanson School for all they have done.

They’ve accepted Vladamir into the school straight away, they’ve donated cleaning products and Brian at the woodwork department even made a table for them for their new apartment because they know they won’t have anything. And they’ve given vouchers for his uniform too.”

“I just want to make the community aware that people in Bradford are really supportive and we are so grateful for all the help we’ve had.”

Louise explained that her niece who works at Bradford Royal Infirmary had also been making yellow and blue wreaths to raise funds to get them their own apartment – and raised more than £2,000 in total.
Louise is looking forward to welcoming her cousin’s over to the UK in a month’s time.
