PLANS to build new housing in Wrose have been recommended for approval – despite there being “extremely limited” school places in the area.

A planning application for 30 homes on land off Westfield Lane were submitted by National Land Investments earlier this year.

The brownfield site had previously been earmarked for employment use, but the application said there had been no interest despite the site being extensively marketed.

At a meeting of Bradford Council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee on Thursday, members will decide whether to approve the plans.

A report to members reveals that 74 people had objected to the plans, raising concerns that there are already enough houses in the area and that a green space would be lost.

One objector wrote to the Council to say: “North Bradford has been almost concreted over in recent years.”

Another issue raised by objectors was a lack of school places in the area.

In response to this, the Council’s education team said: “Current census data for these primary schools indicate that local availability is extremely limited; all schools within 1.1 miles are full in most year groups.

“Parents usually have an expectation that their children will be able to secure a school place at their local school and minimise the distance they may need to travel; this is unlikely to be possible for all families moving here.

“However, a development of this size in unlikely to attract a large number of additional children.”

Members will be advised to approve the development.
