A MURAL in a Bradford district park in memory of toddler Star Hobson will be a lasting legacy, says her great-grandfather.

A large mural has been unveiled in the children’s play area in Roberts Park in Saltaire in honour of the toddler from Keighley.

The design includes a pair of adult hands holding a baby’s hand with the caption ‘forever our girl’ underneath it. The artwork was produced to mark what would have been Star’s third birthday.

It features the nursery rhyme words: ‘Up above the world so high. Like a diamond in the sky. Twinkle, twinkle, little Star.”

Savannah Brockhill, 28, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 25 years for the murder of 16-month-old Star at their flat in Wesley Place Keighley, on September 22, 2020.

Meanwhile, Star’s mother, Frankie Smith, 20, was initially jailed for eight years for causing, or allowing, her death following a trial at Bradford Crown Court in December last year.

David Fawcett, Star’s great-grandfather, says his family welcomed the tribute, which he helped unveil on May 21. He added his family is still struggling to come to terms with her death.

The mural will be joined by a bench featuring a plaque with Star’s name on it in the next few weeks.

A cherry blossom tree was planted in Roberts Park last February in memory of Star.

Mr Fawcett said: “The mural is a fitting tribute. It’s very colourful. It is a legacy for Star. We now have something there to go to and remember Star by and for us all to get together.

“It’s really good. The artist has done a brilliant job.

“We will have a bench there by the mural for Star put there in the next few weeks. We used to take Star there when she was a few months old.

“It’s still a struggle with it all. I’m trying to look after the family, really. It is just something we will never get over.”
