A MAJOR junction has officially reopened today (Friday) after almost a year of promises and delays.

The Allerton Lane, Old Road and School Green junction – which connects Thornton to Allerton – opened to the public again today, with the cones moved away and motorists free to enjoy the newly laid road.

It has been shut since last July when Keepmoat Homes began improvement works.

The whole process has been much-maligned, with the roadworks expected to be done by early October last year.

But fast forward to January 2022 and the barriers were still in place as work continued.

Residents got so annoyed that a petition was set-up to try force Bradford Council to take action.

But on Tuesday a spokesperson for the local authority finally confirmed the improvement scheme would be completed this week and the road reopened on Friday, after yet more delays, with the resurfacing process.

A deadline has finally come to fruition, with members of the public revealing they were able to access the road from today.

Photos taken by The Telegraph & Argus earlier this week show the pristine new road surface.

But the improvements - which focused on widening the road - have seemingly left many feeling underwhelmed.
