A 28 YEAR old was over the drink drive limit when he was questioned by police in Keighley Road, Skipton.

Stephen Tooley had acted 'completely out of character' when he had gone out drinking, heard Skipton Magistrates Court today (Friday).

Police saw Tooley driving a Saab on Keighley Road in the early hours of December 3 last year and went to talk to him after he pulled into a parking space, the court heard.

He smelt of alcohol and told police he had drunk three pints. He was arrested and taken to the police station where a blood test revealed he had 110 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80.

Tooley, of previous good character, admitted drink driving. The court heard in mitigation he had split from his partner and mother of his two children in 2020. There were difficulties in him seeing his children, which upset him, said John Mewies.

Tooley, of Back o' The Beck, Skipton, was banned from driving for 14 months and fined £120. He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £34. If he completes a drink driver rehabilitation course by February 12, 2023, his ban will be reduced by 14 weeks.
