BRADFORD Council has said it is determined to step up patrols at a Bradford cemetery after four graves were destroyed by a car.

Emma Lofthouse was "heartbroken" when she discovered the destruction near her grandmother's headstone in Bowling Cemetery earlier this week.

She captured images showing tyre markings leading up to the displaced headstones and ruined graves.

As a result of this, Emma reported the incident to the police on Tuesday.

Bradford Council was keen to point out that action will be taken to ensure this does not happen again.

A spokesperson said: “We understand the distress that this damage causes to families.

"We will work with the local area coordinator’s office to step up warden patrols and remain vigilant.”

A police spokesperson added: "Police received a report of damage caused by a motor vehicle to a number of gravestones in Bowling Cemetery.

"The report was received at 3.10pm on Tuesday."

This is not the first time residents have complained about cars driving over graves at Bowling Cemetery this year.

Back in February, Trudy Maclean claimed the cemetery had been “neglected” with overgrown grass, potholes, fly-tipping and vehicles using the road between the two entrances as a rat run.
