SWIMMER Dan Longhawn was delighted to achieve his personal target of one hundred lengths in an hour at the recent Horsforth School sponsored swim for the proposed Leeds MND research and treatment centre.

"I swam for the school when younger but my main sport is rugby so I hadn’t been in the water for over two years. I set myself this challenge and was delighted to do the one hundred lengths. It’s an achievement for me," said Dan, 17.

He added: "It’s also an honour to have raised £ 250 to support a project that has involved the world of rugby with Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield leading the fundraising."

Event organiser Horsforth teacher James Bovington added: "I am delighted for Dan that he achieved his target and also with the efforts put in by all eleven swimmers who between them completed over 700 lengths raising about £ 1550 for this most worthwhile cause."

Alice Lilley from the Leeds Hospitals’ charity said: "We need to raise £5m to create a specialist care centre tailored to the needs of MND patients and their families so that all MND services are housed under one roof providing patients with a safe haven to create lasting memories."
