A MAN has been banned from driving and two have been fined for speeding at more than 70mph on the Bingley Bypass.

Three people have been dealt with at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court in recent weeks for driving over the speed limit on the busy road.

All three are males and two of the men are from out-of-town.

The bypass (A650) is to the west of Bradford and links the city and Shipley with Keighley in passing Bingley.

Much of the bypass has a 50mph limit, with a small stretch at 70mph, and is notorious for people speeding along it.

It was dubbed one of the district’s speeding hotspots last March, after new figures at the time revealed 374 motorists exceeded the limit on the road between November 2019 and November 2020 (not including those caught through fixed cameras).

Mohammed Arfan, 32, of Raymond Street in Bradford, was in court last Tuesday and was disqualified from driving for six months, due to repeat offending.

Arfan pleaded guilty to exceeding 50mph on Bingley Bypass back in 2020, on December 12.

He was caught speeding at 74mph on September 29, 2020.

The 32-year-old was also ordered to pay £426 to the court

This included a £282 fine, a surcharge of £34 to fund victim services and costs of £110.

The total must be paid by May 30.

Arfan's guilty plea was taken into account when sentencing.

Mohammed Malik, 29, of Keir Street in Glasgow, was dealt with in court on May 5.

He also pleaded guilty to speeding over 50mph on the bypass.

The 29-year-old was caught doing 73mph in a grey BMW X5 on October 15, 2021.

Malik was also pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle when the registration mark fails to conform with regulations, as his rear number plate had incorrect spacing, no postcode of the manufacturer or the British Standard Kitemark.

Malik was handed five penalty points and ordered to pay £444 to the court.

This included a £320 fine, a surcharge of £34 to fund victim services and costs of £90.

The total must be paid by May 26.

Malik's guilty plea was taken into account when sentencing.

Finally, Suhail Habib, 47, of Horton View in Doncaster, was dealt with on May 5 and pleaded guilty to exceeding the speed limit.

He was caught driving at 77mph in a blue Audi e-tron on March 18 this year.

The 47-year-old was given six penalty points and ordered to pay £822 to the court.

This included a £666 fine, a surcharge of £66 to fund victim services and costs of £90.

The total must be paid by June 2. Habib's guilty plea was taken into account.
