POLICE are investigating an assault in one of the Bradford district's parks on Sunday afternoon.

A witness posted on Facebook to say she saw the alleged assault take place and described it as a 'violent mugging.'

West Yorkshire Police confirmed this morning they are investigating reports of an assault at Myrtle Park, Bingley, yesterday between 4.45pm and 5pm.

Bingley councillors spoke of their concern after hearing about the anti-social behaviour in their wards.

Cllr Winnard (Con) said: “Recently things had been kept under control so it is disappointing to hear that these instances are still happening in Myrtle Park.

"It’s very worrying if it's happened in broad daylight. The park is one of the jewels of Bingley and people should be able to enjoy it without worrying.”

Cllr Dearden (Lab) added: “There’s been quite a lot of anti-social behaviour in Bingley over the past six months but it had seemed to have got quiet recently.

"I know the officers in our area have been doing some good work and getting to know the youths in the park so hopefully, this is an isolated incident."

Enquiries are ongoing.
