A man is to be tried in June next year accused of causing the deaths of an elderly couple by dangerous driving.

Uzain Isa, 23, is charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, dating back to the fatal crash at Hartshead Moor on February 4, 2019.

Eric and Marion Walsh, who were both in their 90s, died in the crash which saw their Skoda Octavia in collision with a Kia Rio on Halifax Road, near Cleckheaton.

They were returning from their weekly shopping trip and cafe stop in Scholes when the incident happened near the Stafford Arms pub.

Isa, of Harvest Court, Halifax, will stand trial at Leeds Crown Court on June 12 next year.

Judge Tom Bayliss QC was today told that the hearing will last at least four days.

Isa’s bail was enlarged until the trial date.
