A 21-YEAR-OLD man has been banned from driving for almost two years after being caught more than twice over the limit.
Junaid Khan, 21, of Syringa Avenue in the Sandy Lane area of Bradford, pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle while over the alcohol limit yesterday at Harrogate Magistrates' Court.
It related to December 12 last year when Khan was stopped in a Vauxhall Astra on Cold Bath Road, in the spa town of Harrogate.
A breathalyser test was conducted on Khan and he blew a reading of 80 micrograms (mg) of alcohol.
This is more than two times the legal limit for drivers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, which is 35mg per 100 millilitres of breath.
Khan had previously pleaded not guilty on January 20, but on the date of the trial (May 12) he changed his plea.
The 21-year-old was disqualified from driving for 20 months, but this can be reduced by 20 weeks if Khan completes a course.
He was also ordered to pay £665.
This included a £311 fine, a surcharge of £34 to fund victim services and £320 in costs.
Khan's guilty plea was taken into consideration by the court when sentencing.
