A POPULAR bar has closed for a £200,000 refurbishment.

The Potting Shed, on Main Street in Bingley, has closed its doors to undergo a six-figure transformation over the next week or so.

The bar, which first opened in Bingley seven years ago in 2015, hosted a closing party on Sunday, before shutting for what is expected to be a two-week period of works.

Sean Kirkley, General Manager, said: "We’re really excited here at The Shed to show you all what we have in store, we’re making some fantastic improvements to increase our levels of service alongside some very aesthetically pleasing changes throughout the whole venue, make sure you to book yourself in.”

The business posted on its Facebook page on Monday - the first day of the refurbishment - offering its customers the chance to suggest changes for when the bar reopens.

The Potting Shed already boasts a wood-fired pizza oven, a rooftop terrace with a retractable roof and an outdoor area with cosy garden sheds to sit in and a large screen.

Mr Kirkley joined The Potting Shed earlier this year, coming back to Bingley where he is originally from, after spending several years honing his skills in fine-dining, working at venues such as Grantley Hall, in Ripon.

He revealed that the refurbishment is not the only new change coming to the Bingley bar.

Mr Kirkley said: “Alongside our £200,000 refurbishment we are going to be launching
some new events such as a Quiz Night every Monday and an Industry Night, keep your eyes peeled for more information.”

The Potting Shed is due to re-open at 8pm on Friday, May 20.

There will be live acoustic music, followed by the bar's resident DJ on the decks with a live saxophonist until the early hours.

John Creighton, Managing Director, said “This is the start of an exciting rollout of
refurbishments across our group and it’s only right that we kick things off in Bingley, our
original and flagship Potting Shed site.

"The response and feedback since announcing our refurbishment from the people of Bingley has been brilliant and we can’t wait to re-open."

The Potting Shed in Bingley was featured as The T&A's Pub of the Week back in August 2020.

The business has five locations in total.

The other four bars are based in Guiseley, Beverley near Hull, Northallerton and Southport, a seaside town in Merseyside.
