A HISTORIC Jubilee stone has been restored and unveiled in a Bradford district town.

Members of Bingley Five Rise Frocks WI dressed in red, white and blue as they watched the refurbished and updated Jubilee stone in Jubilee Gardens, Bingley, being unveiled by Jean Robinson, WI president and Steve Williams, chair of Bingley Town Council.

A commemorative plum tree was also planted in one of the Incredible Edible beds tended by Bingley Bloomers, the gardening group of the WI.

The women were joined by representatives from Bingley Town Council and Bingley Chamber of Trade who had made substantial donations towards the refurbishment of the stone.

The Loft and The Lounge cafes also gave generously to the scheme. Many others donated through bric-a-brac and tombola stalls organised by the WI team.

The event was celebrated with a glass of Prosecco to toast the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Jean Robinson said: "It was very pleasing to see the whole community get behind the project which resulted in the money being raised in no time at all. The Women’s Institute was so pleased to get the support of the town and we're glad to get involved with the community in a variety of ways."
