AN apprentice mechanic from Keighley has been banned from the road for 15 months after admitting to driving while over the alcohol limit.

Reece Wilson, 20, of Upper Calton Street, had been seen by police on the A629 at Kildwick.

Prosecuting, Nadine Clough said police noticed Wilson was driving fast and overtaking other vehicles.

He was stopped on the bridge at Kildwick. When he spoke to officers he was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol.

The provided a positive breath test and was found to have 55 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Wilson, of previous good character, apologised to Skipton magistrates saying he realised he had made a mistake. He said his girlfriend was pregnant so being banned would make things difficult. He also admitted he was at risk of losing his job if the sentence was lengthy.

As well as the ban he was fined £323 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £34 and costs of £85.

He was offered the chance to take a drink-driving rehabilitation course which, if completed successfully by February 22 next year, would reduce his ban by 15 weeks.
