A BRADFORD man has raised £1,105 for charity after a fundraiser at Valley Parade last month.

Chris Walker, who lives in Great Horton, is from Scunthorpe but has lived and worked in Bradford on-and-off for 40 years.

The 64-year-old Scunthorpe United fan is the founder of Friends of Pakati, a charity which supports underprivileged school children in Zimbabwe, where he once taught.

When Bradford City faced Scunthorpe on 23 April, both sets of fans were encouraged to wear a tie to the game and donate £1 to the charity.

“Quite a few supporters turned up wearing ties of many colours, shapes and sizes”, said Chris.

“I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated.

“The support from the people of Bradford and Scunthorpe means a lot to us.”

City beat Iron – who had already been relegated to the National League – 2-1 on the day.

“City deserved to win, but to be honest, it was a bit scrappy”, said Chris.

“We’re grateful to City’s keeper for giving us something to cheer about”, he said jokingly, after Alex Bass’ goalkeeping error gave the visitors a consolation goal.

“I also liked the reception City’s Levi Sutton got from Iron fans, as he is a Scunny lad”, Chris added.
