A danger driver who tried to avoid arrest by hiding under the floorboards of a house in Bradford has been jailed for 12 months.

Last month 25-year-old Michael Craggs was locked up for 39 months for his role in a spate of attacks on homes across West Yorkshire while he was still on prison licence.

Craggs, of Lapage Terrace, Bradford, was "wanted" by police last year and his offending came to an end last August when he was spotted behind the wheel of a stolen Mercedes GLA 200 worth over £30,000.

Bradford Crown Court heard how the car had been driven away by burglars during an overnight attack on a house in the city and Craggs and others were later seen putting false plates on the vehicle.

Craggs, who admitted handling the stolen car, was later involved in a 13-minute pursuit involving police cars and the West Yorkshire force helicopter.

Prosecutor Adam Walker said Craggs, who had co-accused in the car with him, failed to stop for police and drove dangerously on roads in the Killinghall Road area.

The car was eventually abandoned on a dirt track and the occupants fled the scene.

Mr Walker said officers surrounded a nearby house and Craggs and a co-accused were found hiding under he floorboards.

Craggs’ criminal record began when he was a juvenile and the court heard that in November 2018 he received a lengthy prison sentence for offences burglary and dangerous driving.

In June last year, police put out an appeal for information about Craggs after he was wanted on recall for breaching his prison licence.

Craggs pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving today.

Barrister Helena Spector, for Craggs, said he accepted he was the author of his own misfortune, but he now wanted to turn his life around.

The Recorder of Bradford Judge Richard Mansell QC said Craggs' 12-month jail sentence would start immediately and run alongside is current 39-month prison term.

He also banned Craggs from driving for a period of two years.

Craggs is not allowed to drive lawfully again until he passes an extended re-test.
