VOLUNTEERS are wanted to help take part in an event to reduce pollution entering Bradford Beck.
Friends of Bradford’s Becks (FOBB) and Yorkshire Water will be holding a demonstration event at Boggart Wood, Allerton, on Tuesday, May 10.
Those attending will be given a demonstration of how Yorkshire Water respond to reports of suspected pollution raised by the volunteers, as well as the equipment used to clear blocked sewers.
FOBB and Yorkshire Water protect and promote Bradford Beck, with volunteers recording observations of the watercourse, which Yorkshire Water can then investigate.
Many of the observations recorded by volunteers have led to the discovery of misconnections from residential and business properties along the beck.
Barney Lerner, Friends of Bradford’s Becks chairman, said: “During 2020 FOBB found pollution at 13 different locations on the network of becks in Bradford. Yorkshire Water found 55 misconnections as a result.
“Now that most of those have been fixed, there will be another round of volunteer observations during June, July and August this year.”
Volunteers will be provided with the PollutionWatch app, developed by Friends of Bradford’s Becks and Yorkshire Water. It provides an easy way to record the state of the beck. To sign up for the event, email at BradfordsBecks@gmail.com
