AIREBOROUGH Camera Club members produced stunning photographs in their latest internal competition.

An eclectic mix of themes can be seen in these winning images.

Club Vice President Chris Owens said: "The Camera Club has survived another unusual season thanks to the dedication, willingness to adapt and spirit of our members. We have had to face a reduced programme of events, a mixture of Zoom and face-to-face meetings in a new venue. The club has moved from Guiseley Theatre to Guiseley Methodist Church, which met our needs better under the prevailing conditions.

"The weekly Wednesday evening meetings, which are open to members and invited guests have taken place in the church or on Zoom and these have been supported by fortnightly Zoom ‘Snapchats’, which are open to all and have proved very popular as there is no set programme and members can contribute freely with images and/or comments.

"The usual competitions have run but unfortunately only Projected Digital Images have been accepted, printed images could not be passed to external judges. The Yorkshire Photographic Union judges were happy to work via Zoom, the transfer of images was not a problem and the judges could remain in their own homes. Again, the judges were very professional and motivating giving praise, constructive criticism and encouragement.

"Many of the presentations by external speakers have also been by Zoom and this has allowed to use sources from all over the country. We have enjoyed presentations on a number of unusual topics, such as Infrared Photography from Nigel Lumb, Drone Photography from Ian Wray and Being There by Richard Spurdens. Sally Sallett from the YPU executive gave us a valuable presentation on the production, processing and presentation of images for successful competition entry and gaining awards at both local and national levels.

"There have also been some fascinating presentations from our own members demonstrating their skill at recognising the image and taking the photograph, it also showed that we never stop learning, there is always something new."

He added: "Sadly Aireborough was not able to repeat lasts year’s success against Cookridge Camera Club, we were well beaten. Congratulations must be given to Cookridge for putting together a less varied but more consistent group of images, we look forward to next year.

"Our ‘Open Competition’ is back on track with continued support from our sponsors: Brewin Dolphin and the Rotary Club of Aireborough. Without their generous donations the ‘Open’ could not continue and the chance for local and not so local photographers to show off their talents would be gone. This year the title is A Grand Day Out. After the restrictions of the last two years people are taking the opportunity to make the most of their new found freedom whether it be a special family occasion, a trip to the seaside or country show or just enjoying the ability of being together. Prizes of £75, £50 and £25 will be awarded to the top three images. Entry forms and details are available from www.aireboroughcameraclub.co.uk.

"After four eventful years our President, Liakat Parapia, has completed his term of office. He has served the club wonderfully, overseeing new ventures, the ups and downs of COVID and the discussions surrounding the change of club venue. He will not be having a quiet time as he is still a member of the club’s committee, but we all wish him well and thank him for his industry and leadership. We congratulate and welcome our new President, Mike Woodcock, and wish him well in his extra role; he is already our Competition Secretary."

Bradford Golf Club will be the venue for the Annual Dinner and Presentation Evening. The season will start on Wednesday, September 7 with the club's open evening at which there will be the presentation of prizes for the open competition and an introduction to the club for visitors. All are welcome at the event which will be at Guiseley Methodist Church.
