PLANNED roadworks on the M62 between junctions 25 and 30 have caused significant delays at peak travel times.

The roadworks, expected to be completed by this winter, will upgrade the motorway and make it safer for commuters.

Currently, work is being carried out on a stretch of motorway near junction 27.

Road users have been advised to plan their journeys and avoid travelling at peak times.

Monique Kibara, National Highways Project Sponsor, said: “We have started work to improve safety on the M62 between junctions 25 and 30, starting with the upgrade of a 1.7-mile section of safety barrier around junction 27 from steel to concrete.

“Safety is always our top priority. Once completed, the upgraded barriers will improve journeys and significantly reduce the risk of vehicles crossing over from one carriageway to another, improving safety and reducing the duration of incident-related congestion.

“Work is expected to be completed this winter. In the meantime, we are doing all we can to keep disruption to a minimum, but we advise road users to plan their journeys and avoid travelling at peak times if possible. I want to thank everyone for their patience while we carry out these vital safety improvements.”
