TWO BRADFORD district MPs have been banned from entering Russia after showing support for Ukraine.

They have been included on a list of nearly 300 MPs who will not be able to enter the country after calling for sanctions against Vladmir Putin’s government.

Philip Davies, Conservative MP for Shipley, and Judith Cummins, Labour MP for Bradford South, are just two of the 287 MPs the Kremlin claim have played “the most active part” in establishing anti-Russia sanctions and creating “Russophobic hysteria”.

Russia’s Ministry of Foreign affairs imposed ‘personal restrictions’ on the MPs yesterday, and said it was a response to the decision made by the British Government to add 386 State Duma deputies to a sanctions list last month.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the 287 MPs on the list should “regard it as a badge of honour”.

Ms Cummins agreed with this, while Mr Davies added he was “proud” to have been included, amid the turmoil that many Ukrainian people are facing.

“The UK Government has been right to lead the world in supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression, and I am proud to have played my small part in supporting that”, Mr Davies said.

“If the penalty for that is to be banned from Russia and sanctioned by their government, then so be it.

“That is a very small price to pay compared to the unbearable suffering the Ukrainians are facing at the hands of the Russians.”

Ms Cummins added: “If being critical of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine leads to sanctions against me on the orders of Putin, so be it. I wear it as a badge of honour.

“As I said in the House of Commons to the Prime Minister back in March, Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine appals most of the world and shames the rest.

“The barbarity we have seen unleashed on innocent Ukrainians since the invasion, from young children to elderly citizens, has been deeply shocking and the atrocities committed by Russia must have the harshest and swiftest possible consequences.

“I will not be cowed by these sanctions and will continue to support harsher penalties against Putin and his cronies and work to ensure our national food and energy security from Russia’s malign actions.”

Others featured on the list include Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Diane Abbott, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Penny Mordaunt.
