A FIRE at a derelict school this afternoon prompted a big response from across West Yorkshire.
The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service received an initial call at 4.47pm to the blaze at the derelict school on Waterton Road, Wakefield.
At its height, the fire measured approximately 50 by 50 metres and advice to local residents was to keep their doors and windows closed.
By 7pm the incident had been scaled back and damping down was in progress.
Engines from Ossett, Wakefield, Dewsbury and Normanton fire stations were in attendance.
The was also a special teams command unit, a hose layer unit and an aerial appliance.
