A PROTEST is being held against the removal of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in Bradford this evening.
A large crowd has gathered at the Consulate of Pakistan, off Canal Road, after Khan was ousted following a vote of no confidence.
Protestors are waving Pakistan flags as well as the flag of Azad Kashmir, the region of the South Asian country where the vast majority of British-Pakistanis in Bradford can trace their roots too.
Those at the rally are also displaying the flag of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Khan’s political party.
There are reports of traffic disruption on Shipley Airedale Road and Canal Road due to the protest.
Former Pakistan cricket world cup-winning captain Khan was removed as leader of the country after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of opposition parties and said he had acted unconstitutionally.
Khan’s supporters have argued that his removal has been instigated by the US and that Pakistan’s opposition parties are working with foreign powers.
