A WELL-LOVED Year 2 teacher was named Support Staff Member of the Year at the Telegraph & Argus Bradford & District Education Awards.
Susan Adams teaches drama at Baildon CE Primary, and is described as 'larger than life' by her colleagues.
Speaking before the event, Mrs Adams said: "I always thought I would act and assumed I’d be at the Oscars one day but this is more than the Oscars because this is a nomination for something I’ve done.”
After she came through the stacked field, which included Louise Marsh (Low Ash Primary) and Esta Bernadini (Carlton Keighley), Mrs Adams was overwhelmed with emotion.
She said: "It is absolutely brilliant. It is lovely to be rewarded.
"I could not win this if it wasn't for my colleagues and the kids I have worked with day in and day out over the past 20 years.
"I was asking the kids all day about what to do if I don't win. They all said I had to be really grateful and don't worry, but I said I really wanted to.
"The kids are going to be beside themselves. I did not expect this at all. Half the kids have been drawing banners ready for tomorrow.
"We teach kids about the importance of taking part but winning is a good feeling and there is nothing wrong about saying that.
"It is all about the kids I teach and those that go I quite like acting and say it is good fun."
Her colleague added: “Sue is definitely somebody who can be described as larger than life.
"She is the heart and soul of every party but she’s also the heart and soul of our school.
"We are a school that is part of the community. Sue lives and breathes that in everything she does.”
