A BRADFORD man has avoided an immediate jail sentence after admitting to being more than three times over the drink-drive limit.

James Peel, 31, of Elm Court, Bradford, appeared before magistrates in Kirklees last week.

He admitted driving a VW Golf on Quarry Road, Gomersal, while over the prescribed limit for alcohol. The incident took place on March 22, 2022.

Tests showed he had 131 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - which is more than three times over the limit set at 35 microgrammes.

He was handed a 12-week prison sentence which was then suspended for 12 months.

The court said the prison sentence was down to the fact that the offence was so serious.

Magistrates took into account the high reading, that a collision took place, and because it was Peel's second offence in ten years.

He must also carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and take part in 25 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

In addition he was banned from driving for five years, and must pay a £128 victim surcharge and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The hearing took place on April 7 at Kirklees Magistrates' Court.
