A POLICE emergency phone line has hit out at the number of hoax calls it has already received this week, blaming the school holidays.

West Yorkshire Police's Contact Management Centre shared details of the call to highlight the importance of using 999 for emergency calls only.

The team often tweets some of the more unusual phone calls they receive from the general public.

The force receives 120 inappropriate calls each day, adding one is too many, as part of its #Not999 campaign.

In its latest message, the centre tweeted about the number of hoax calls it received this week.

It posted: “Can tell it's the school holidays. The amount of hoax calls is ridiculous when we are doing our very best to answer genuine emergency calls. #Not999.”
