A MANCHESTER United star has congratulated a Bradford-based amateur football team on winning a cup in a special video message.

Paul Pogba, who has also won the World Cup for France, sent a video message to Route One Rovers after they won the Bradford District Cup to become the first club in the competition history to be from a BAME community to win it.

Pogba is friends with Route One Rovers manager and wished his side well after their 2-0 victory over Athletico FC in Wednesday night’s showpiece clash. Mohammad Arshad and Sinmi Oyebanji scored the goals.

In the 26-second video, filmed in the back seat of a car, Pogba said: “I want to tell you congratulations on winning the tournament to Route One Rovers. I really, really appreciate that, I like that.

“Congratulations to you and enjoy, enjoy. I hope to see you soon. Ciao.”

Pogba is one of the biggest names in world football, who has won the most prestigious honours in the game. These include being part of the World Cup-winning France team in 2018. He has made 91 appearances for his country, scoring 11 goals.

He also re-signed for Manchester United in 2016 for a then record transfer fee for a player at £89.3 million. Her started his career at Manchester United, making three appearances between 2010 and 2012. He then moved to Italy, winning a number of titles at Juventus in his four-year spell before returning to Old Trafford.

Pogba's superstar support for the Bradford amateur club will no doubt help boost their profile.

Route One Rovers are currently fifth in the Supreme Division of the Yorkshire Amateur League.

The club was set up in 2013 to give football talent in Bradford and West Yorkshire the opportunity to compete in 11-a-side football. In that time the club has grown rapidly and is now a step seven football club with the ambition to go semi-professional.

On their Facebook page, Route One Rovers posted: “Thanks to Paul Pogba for showing his support.

“Another step in the right direction as Route One Rovers become the first Yorkshire Amateur League team to win the district cup. Always intense when local rivals meet in a final.

“Credit to boys who fasted and still performed to the levels expected from the team. The support again was incredible like it has been all season.”
