FLOYD Mayweather Sr paid a visit to Bradford to open a new boxing club.

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Sr, who is the father and former trainer of undefeated multi-belt champion Floyd Mayweather Jr, officially opened P4P Bradford Boxing Academy in Allerton last night.

Mayweather Sr boxed professionally in the welterweight division from 1974 to 1990 and is known for his defensive abilities and knowledge of boxing strategy.

"It was a brilliant evening," said P4P co-owner Mohammad Nadeem. "Everybody loved it.

"Floyd Mayweather Sr was amazing and worked with all of the kids. It was a great experience and he gave them a lot of tips.

"He's a bubbly guy and very down to earth," added Mr Nadeem. "He's quite friendly and outgoing."

"It was great having him in Bradford. It was his first time coming here.

"I also want to thank local restaurant Lahori Dhaba for providing a fantastic iftari meal for the team. It couldn't have ended the night any better."

Mr Nadeem and co-owner Umar Mahmood said they are opening P4P, on Allerton Road, "for the community and to get the kids off the street".

"It'll be mixed age groups in juniors and seniors," said Mr Nadeem, a long-time coach. "I come from a boxing background and have been coaching for ten years."
