WEST YORKSHIRE Police has arrested nearly 500 drink and drug-drivers in the past 50 days and has nabbed nine offenders on suspicion of driving over the limit in the past 24 hours.

Police said that they “don’t just catch drink and drug-drivers over Christmas” after announcing the figures yesterday.

The #WYPTheCost campaign encourages people to be mindful of the effects that driving while intoxicated can have.

Police are warning people that driving while over the limit cannot only cost you “your licence, your job or your car” – but also “your life”.

In a social media post, West Yorkshire Police said: “Just in case you were wondering, we don't just catch drink or drug-drivers over Christmas.

“We have arrested nine people in the past 24 hours on suspicion of driving while over the prescribed limit - and that was on a school night.

“In the past 50 days we have made nearly 500 arrests.”
