LATEST UPDATE: Car smashed into other vehicles, a wall and a lamppost on major road

A MAJOR road has been closed in both directions after a crash

The A641 Bradford Road, in Brighouse, has been closed for several hours, following a crash. 

The accident happened at 8.10am next to the Tesco petrol station. 

A severely damaged red car can be seen within the police cordon, and debris from a brick wall is scattered across the scene.

The road has been closed in both directions by police, with diversions in place.

West Yorkshire Police said: "Police were called to Bradford Road, Brighouse at about 8.11am this morning to a report a Vauxhall car had collided with other vehicles and then a wall and lamppost at the location.

"The male driver of the Vauxhall was freed from his vehicle and taken to hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

"A road closure was out in place at the location and on Bonegate Road while the car was recovered and the road was made safe."
