A BRADFORD woman has said that “enough is enough” after claiming that “speeding” drivers have now ploughed into her garden wall on six separate occasions – and she has had to pay almost £5,000 as a result.

71-year-old Elizabeth Ropka is “angry and very distressed”, branding the drivers responsible for the damage as “idiots”.

The pensioner, who is registered disabled and has mobility issues, lives on All Alone Road in Idle, which she claims has become a “race track”.

Ms Ropka is calling on Bradford Council to help cover the costs, after claiming to have paid around £4,800 out of her own pocket.

“It’s very dangerous. Speeding drivers have made a huge impact by crashing into my wall – can you imagine if a child was there? They would be killed”, she said.

“It can’t go on. It shouldn’t be my responsibility to pay, when it isn’t my fault.

“Drivers put their foot down and don’t realise how sharp the bend is. It’s a horrendous corner.

“I think the Council should put speed cameras up – they would make a fortune, and people would think twice about driving so fast.

“I heard about a lollipop lady being knocked down outside a school in Wibsey, we have a lollipop man here as well – something needs to be done before it happens here, too.

“The first time a crash happened, my wall was literally knocked down. If it wasn’t for the bushes, the driver would have ended up in my conservatory.

“A driver also crashed into my car and wrote it off. The guy who came to collect the car asked if it had been hit by a lorry – that’s how bad the impact was.”

Ms Ropka added that it is not only cars using the road.

“Some people drive here with quad bikes”, she explained.

“Can you imagine if one of them fell off and got hurt? Can you imagine the suffering of their parents?

“This has always been a quiet area, except for the idiots who have decided to make it a race track.”

Ms Ropka also expressed concern that Blakehill Primary School is nearby.

“I’m worried that a child could get killed”, she said.

“When I’ve seen parents around, I’ve warned them not to park on that corner.

“I’m just trying to do anything I can – but now it’s time for the Council to get their act together.”

Bradford Council has been contacted for comment.
