AN AWARDS ceremony celebrating the successes of African and Caribbean people in Bradford and West Yorkshire will be held in the city on 6 May.

The event, organised by Bradford-based Africa4U, will also help to “bridge networks” between different communities in the region.

It will feature a range of guest speakers, motivational talks and will offer a chance to hear the success stories of often unsung heroes in the district.

Tony Tokunbo Eteka Fernandez, CEO of Africa4U, said: “This event is to celebrate people’s achievements and bring the communities, cities and towns of West Yorkshire closer together.

“There is still a disconnect between some communities, so we are hoping to fix that.

“With Bradford being shortlisted for the City of Culture 2025, I think is a great time to have such events here.”

Tony is an author and activist who lived in both London and Nigeria before making Bradford his home in 2017.

He will be hosting Black History Month celebrations at the Houses of Parliament – something he has done a number of times before – later this year, and plans to release his new e-book, Fifty Reasons to Live, in August.

The event will take place from 6pm at City Library on Friday, 6 May.
