DOG owners in a Bradford district area are being warned after a young woman was injured whilst someone was attempting to steal her pet.

The incident occurred in an alleyway between Queensway and The Oval, Bingley, on Monday afternoon.

The owner of the dog sustained a cut to her stomach and spent several hours in hospital.

An anonymous warning about the incident has been posted in the area and is circulating on social media.

It condemns the "scum" responsible for the act and tells people to be cautious when out walking their dogs.

Many of the specific details are yet to be confirmed by police, but the anonymous letter stated: "Dog Owners beware.

"On Monday, March 28, a young woman was stabbed by someone trying to snatch her dog in an alleyway between Queensway and The Oval, Bingley.

"Luckily the wound was not serious, but she had to spend five hours in A&E while they dressed it.

"She hung on to the dog and they ran off after stabbing her.

"Please be aware that these scum are operating in the Bingley area and are prepared to injure people for the dogs.

"Please share on social media so other dog owners are aware and keep an eye out for anyone following you."

A spokesperson from the force added: "Police took a report of an attempted dog theft at the Oval on Bingley on Monday 28.

"The owner suffered a cut to her stomach which required hospital treatment.

"Enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious at the Oval on Monday afternoon is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 1014 of 28 March"
