FOLLOWING emergency services descending on the line between Leeds and Shipley, it has been confirmed that a person has tragically died.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Kirkstall at 1.34pm today (29 March) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and inform their family.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

All lines have now re-opened, however, train services running through these stations could be delayed or revised. 

Disruption is expected to last till 4pm.

Guidance to travellers issued by Northern Rail said: "Train services from Leeds - Skipton, Leeds - Bradford Forster Square and Leeds - Ilkley, in both will be subject to delay and short notice alterations."

Replacement Transport:

Road Transport provided by J&B Travel will operate as follows:

15:00 Kirkstall Forge to Leeds

15:30 Leeds to Kirkstall Forge

Customers travelling from Kirkstall Forge are advised to use the replacement bus service to Leeds and change for a train service back to their destination.

Customers travelling to Kirkstall Forge are advised to travel to Leeds for a replacement bus service back to Kirkstall Forge.

Journey times by road will be extended by up to 30 minutes.

Alternative Travel Suggestions:

The route from Leeds to Bradford Interchange is not affected by this problem. Customers may wish to to travel to or from Bradford Interchange making the short walk between Bradford Interchange and Bradford Forster Square to complete their journey.
