A MAN says he plans to move his car parked in the same space for more than 15 years which has become buried by overgrown ivy on a Bradford district street.

Tim Ward says he left his red Ford Escort, which dates back to the late 1990s, parked in a space he owns outside his former family home in Lister Ville, Wilsden, in around 2005 or 2006.

The vehicle has not moved since and only small sections of it are now still visible after it has become covered in overgrown ivy over the last three years.

A small section of the passenger side of the windscreen and the front driver’s side wing mirror are among the few sections of the vintage vehicle which can still be seen.

He says he was initially asked to leave his former vehicle there by his mother, who lived at the house, for sentimental and security reasons after he moved away.

But the car has remained there since his mother died in 2016 and only now is Mr Ward ready to remove the car due to the emotional attachment it had to his mother.

Mr Ward, who owns the land where the car has been left, says he plans to clear it away next month, adding the neighbours have not complained as they used to know his mother and the reason why the car was originally left there.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

He said: “The car has been there since 2005 or 2006. It just kind of stayed there.

“Over the years my mum cleaned it of branches and started it up occasionally.

“The numberplate on it was more valuable than the car.

“After my mum died, I did not have the heart to move it.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

“It’s got more and more overgrown. I wanted to try to turn it into a coffee bar at one point, because of the interest in it.

“It did not become overgrown until my mum passed away. Over the last two or three years it has become overgrown.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

“It’s not laziness why we haven’t taken it away, it was the emotional side.

“It’s a landmark almost. It was a parking space for the house originally.

“It’s not an eyesore anymore as it’s disappeared. It has become a bit of a joke with my neighbours.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

“My mum valued it being there so much, so it has been too hard to take it away before now. It’s just been quite emotional to do that.

“It’s got to go. I will get rid of it by the end of April. Enough time has gone now. It has just been too emotional for me to take the car away before.”
