A SCHEME where people can use an app to book a "flexibus" to pick them up when they need it could be rolled out to Bradford once it is perfected.

The "demand responsive transport" pilot is currently taking place in the East of Leeds, and focuses more on passenger need, rather than fixed routes and fixed timetables.

The pilot will see if the scheme is effective and commercially viable.

At a meeting of West Yorkshire Combined Authority's Bradford District Consultation Sub Committee this week, members asked if this scheme was likely to be rolled out in Bradford.

Dave Pearson, Director of Transport Services, said some work needed to be done to improve the service, but once that is complete it could be rolled out across West Yorkshire.

He said: "There are reasonable numbers of people using this. There is just a little bit of work to be done to make customer provision a bit better.

"It works better when it picks multiple people up, at the moment we are carrying single passengers on some journeys. It is all about best working out how the technology works. "The short answer is the scheme is doing OK, but we are doing a lot of work around what does work and what doesn't work."
