During the eighties, visitors to Shipley's newest "sunspot" could get a Florida-style tan to go with their American meal at the Connection in Westgate, Shipley.
According to the Telegraph and Argus, on September 9, 1980, managers of the family restaurant had opened a sun lounge directly above the Western-type diner.
Murals of sun-kissed palms and a cooling fan to keep perspiration to a minimum helped the centre's guests conjure up impressions of a South Sea paradise complete with a sea breeze.
Owners were keen to point out that the Sun Connection did not just cater to those wanting to look good in a bikini. The sessions were also a great way to unwind after a hard day's work. If customers went along at lunchtime or in the evening, they could enjoy a drink or a meal at the restaurant downstairs.
