POLICE seized a “large quantity” of illegal cigarettes after acting on a search warrant in Kirklees yesterday.

Neighbourhood Policing Team Officers from Dewsbury and Mirfield, working in conjunction with Trading Standards, descended on Top Valley Newsagents in Dewsbury town centre.

After finding and seizing the illegal cigarettes, trading standards will now continue the investigation, police said.

“The counterfeit and illegal goods trade is not a victimless crime”, West Yorkshire Police said.

“Often criminals use the profits to fund other organised crime, which can affect the local community.”
