A CAR park next to the University of Bradford campus could be transformed into a new industrial development if new plans are approved.

The car park, on Hey Street next to the University's Green student accommodation, is subject of a planning application by A.H Ali.

If approved, five light industrial units and offices would be built on the site, creating 810 square metres of employment space. Although the site is used as a car park, it is next to a derelict, overgrown plot of land that seems to have been targeted by fly tippers in recent years.

The application points out that the site, a former woollen mill demolished in the 1960s, lies within a "Bradford Business Development Zone."

Plans for employment development on overgrown city centre site are approved

It adds: "It is felt that the proposed development will and should provide employment / growth within this area and will positively enhance the current setting. "This will also considerably help or eliminate any fly tipping issues around the site area. With the present economic climate Covid and the land currently being unoccupied it is felt that the new proposals would benefit the local businesses through job creation and an offer of more closely located services-giving an added vibrancy to the outer City Centre growth area."

A decision on the application is expected in May.
