Lloyds is set to shut one of its bank branches in Bradford amid a new wave of closures.

The banking group - which owns Lloyds, Bank of Scotland and Halifax - is closing 60 branches across the UK.

It comes after the number of customers using online banking reached an all-time high in 2022.

The decision will affect Lloyds Bank in Thornbury with a closure planned for September 20, 2022.

Meanwhile the Halifax branch in Yeadon will shut its doors on July 25, 2022.

Lloyds says it now has 18.6 million regular online banking customers and more than 15 million mobile app users.

Usage for such apps has increased 12% and 27% respectively in the last two years.

Vim Maru, group retail director at Lloyds Banking Group, said: “Just like many other high street businesses, fewer customers are choosing to visit our branches.

"Our branch network is an important way for us to support our customers, but we need to adapt to the significant growth in customers choosing to do most of their everyday banking online.”

What do customers need to know?

Lloyds has confirmed all 60 affected branches have been through LINK’s independent cash access assessments, recently introduced by the Cash Action Group.

This ensures that cash access levels are maintained for communities.

As part of this process, LINK have recommended that three locations should get new Banking Hubs, where customers of all main banks can carry out day to day banking.

Lloyds said customers affected by closures locally will continue to have everyday banking and cash access within one mile.

Customers banking with Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland can also use a Post Office branch for everyday banking.

This includes withdrawing and depositing cash in your accounts, making balance queries and deposit cheques.

Bradford bank closures

The district has lost a number of bank branches in recent years.

The Royal Bank of Scotland branch on Bank Street, Bradford, is marked for closure on March 30.

The company said: "With the ease of mobile and digital banking fewer people are coming into the bank. This means we’ve had to make some tough choices about which can stay open."

Meanwhile, the closure of Bradford South's last-standing bank, Santander in Wibsey, in 2021 means the area is not served by a single local branch.

The Wibsey closure was closely followed by Santander's Bingley Main Street and Brighouse Commercial Street branches.
