TWO youths made almost 5,000 calls to 999 and shouted obscenities to operators down the phone.

West Yorkshire Police's Contact Management Centre often shares posts on its Twitter page about the obscene and inappropriate calls it receives on a day-to-day basis.

A post at 6.39pm today explained that two "delightful youths" made 4,999 calls to the emergency number and were shouting obscene words down the line throughout.

Police called the number back and the mum and dad answered the phone.

The operator said they both were "clearly embarrassed and ashamed".

They added a final message for the youths, stating "enjoy being grounded and your games consoles taken off you!"
