WOMEN from Bradford’s community of Dawoodi Bohras showcased their faith and culture in a ‘By Women, For Women’ event called ‘Our Women Our Culture.’

The event was attended by a host of leading female VIPs from the region, including Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire; Councillor Beverley Mullaney, Deputy Lord Mayor; Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Leader of Bradford Council; and Shanaz Gulzar, Chair of the Bradford 2025 bid.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Local Bohra women - many of whom run local businesses or work in medicine, education, IT and other professions - informed guests about Dawoodi Bohra architecture, attire, their renowned cuisine and community kitchens (FMB), their emphasis on female empowerment, and the significance that the faith places on equal access to quality education for girls and boys.

Focus was given to the variety of ways Bohras contribute to Bradford society, particularly through supporting vulnerable people and enhancing the natural environment.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Leader of Bradford Council, said: “I’m very impressed by your model of feeding the community. An example to inspire the rest of us.”

The Dawoodi Bohras are Muslims who have lived in Bradford since the 1960s. Saturday’s event was hosted at their mosque, Adam Masjid in Girlington and is the focus of the 70 families in the community.
