A MAN died suddenly after being found unconscious in a street.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) found the male in Wedgewood Close, in the Allerton Bywater area of Leeds yesterday morning.

Staff called West Yorkshire Police to the scene at 6.43am.

The man was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

But he was pronounced dead on Sunday night.

Officers have a police cordon still in place today while the area is forensically examined and specialist searches are undertaken. 

This is part of ongoing investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

West Yorkshire Police has also issued an appeal for information.

A full statement from West Yorkshire Police said: "Detectives are investigating the death of a man in Leeds.

"At 6.43am yesterday, police were contacted by the ambulance service who were attending Wedgewood Close, in Allerton Bywater, where a man had been found unconscious in the street.

"He was taken to hospital for emergency treatment but was subsequently pronounced dead on Sunday night.

"A scene remains in place in the area to undergo forensic examination and specialist searches while enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
