AN Oxenhope resident said he has had to have CCTV installed outside his Station Road home after being plagued by anti-social behaviour from youths.

John Craven said he has taken up the issue with Oxenhope Parish Council which has since contacted both the police and the parish council-funded youth club which meets each Friday.

Mr Craven said he has reported youths banging on his doors and windows and throwing eggs at his house to the police in recent weeks, which West Yorkshire Police has acknowledged, as well as groups congregating in areas around the village.

Mr Craven said the young people were buying eggs from the Co-op in the village.

"The store had admitted selling eggs to these yobs which they have then thrown at homes, including mine, so I have made an official complaint to the Co-op's head office. I've also reported it to the police," he said.

"The only way I can deter them is with CCTV so I've spent £500 on getting a system installed. I shouldn't have had to do this but anti-social behaviour is getting worse in the village especially on youth club night. I've spoken to several people who all feel the same.

"The parish council should be doing more to stop this and the youth club should make sure that only local young people are admitted. UK law says the parish council has to uphold the wellbeing of its resident electors in the parish so it should be doing more to stamp out this anti-social behaviour.

He said there had been damage caused in the Millennium Garden and he suspected groups of young people were coming from outside the area selling drugs. He said he has smelled cannabis and seen small polythene bags in the Millennium Garden which he suspects is drug paraphernalia.

He said the anti-social behaviour has caused stress on both himself and his wife who is particularly vulnerable through being diadnosed as bi-polar and recovering from breast cancer.

Parish council vice chairman Robert Goulding said he had spoken to Mr Craven about his concerns and had taken it upon himself to drive into the village on Friday evenings to see any anti-social behaviour for himself.

He said: "I've been down a few times over the past few weeks. There has been groups of young people about although I don't know if they are local young people or from outside the district.

"I did speak to our chairman about it and we have written to the police and youth club.

"I have no idea why Mr Craven's home has been targeted."
