12 PEOPLE had to scramble to safety following a fire at a flat in Bradford this morning.
A huge emergency services response took place in the early hours of the day after the blaze broke out on the ground floor of a university halls of residence.
The fire is reported to have happened at the Imtiaz Malik Building – also known as Malik Halls – on Great Horton Road, near the University of Bradford.
Eight fire stations from across West Yorkshire were called to deal with the blaze, which was first reported shortly after 3.25am, while police were also in attendance.
11 breathing apparatus sets, four hose reels and positive pressure ventilation was used to tackle the fire.
Eight people were self-rescued prior to the arrival of the emergency services, while four people were led to safety by fire crews.
A West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson added: "All persons were accounted for and no one had to be taken to hospital by fire crews.
"Smoke detectors were also fitted in the property and were working.
"Ambulance crews were also in attendance, due to the nature of the incident."
Firefighters from Bradford, Fairweather Green, Odsal, Shipley, Cleckheaton, Leeds, Stanningley and Killingbeck fire stations were in attendance.
West Yorkshire Police was also contacted for comment.
