The 35-year-old man was the rider of a motorbike which collided with a van on Rooley Lane, shortly after 7am.

This morning, a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said that there were “no updates” on the man’s condition “as things stand”.

The collision brought traffic on Rooley Lane to a halt, with parts of it remaining closed until lunchtime.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the collision, and have urged anyone with information to contact them on 101, or use the live chat facility at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/contactus, quoting log number 257 of 18 March.

Two local councillors voiced their concern following the incident, and both offered their sympathy to all those affected.

Speaking yesterday, Sabiya Khan, Labour councillor for Wibsey, said: "We are concerned for the injured person and their family, and we hope he is okay.

"We don't want to see any road accidents in our district.

"We don't know the cause of the accident as of yet, but we encourage everyone to drive safely and with care and attention.

"We are constantly working with our partners to ensure the safety of our residents."

Ralph Berry, Labour councillor for Wibsey, added: "We are really worried, but we don't want to speculate on what has happened just yet.

"Our thoughts are with the injured person and we hope they make a full recovery."
