CREWS from across West Yorkshire including Bradford are tackling a huge fire on Marsden Moor this afternoon.
A spokesperson from the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters are tackling a blaze which they described as having a "400 metre flame front".
The fire service received the call to the moorland fire in Kirklees at 3.51pm.
Ten appliances from fire stations across West Yorkshire, a specialist wildfire vehicle attended the incident at its height.
Firefighters have used 20 beaters and two blowers to battle the blaze.
The incident was scaled back to six appliances in attendance at 6pm, but the fire service warned people to stay away.
A fire service spokesperson said: "Please avoid the area as we tackle this incident."
In recent years, the picturesque Marsden area has been affected by a number of moorland fires.
The most high-profile blaze in the area came on 25 April 2021 after a person lit a firecracker at Black Moss Reservoir.
