COVID-19 cases in Bradford have risen by more than 60 per cent, official figures show.

The latest Government figures show that in the seven days to March 14, a total of 1,758 cases were recorded.

That was 669 more cases than in the previous seven days, a percentage increase of 61.4 per cent.

The increase comes after two months of falling case numbers.

However, numbers of hospital patients at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been falling and, as of March 8, figures show that of 34 Covid-19 patients, none required mechanical ventilation.

At Airedale, patient numbers dipped in mid to late February, before steadily rising again and then slightly falling. As of March 8, 32 Covid-19 patients were receiving treatment, with one requiring mechanical ventilation.

All testing centres in Bradford, including the one in Centenary Square, are to close by the end of the month.

A Council spokesperson said: "With large numbers of cases and the removal of legal restrictions it is still important that we protect ourselves, our friends and loved ones by continuing to take sensible steps to stop the virus spreading.

"Please book your first, second and booster vaccine if eligible without delay. You can either book an appointment through the NHS online national booking service or visit a walk-in centre.

"However you choose to have your vaccination – whether it is your first, second, third or booster dose, we look forward to seeing you and, together, we can stop the spread of Covid-19 in our communities and help protect our NHS.

"To keep those who are vulnerable safe we must continue to let fresh air into enclosed spaces, wash hands often and wear face masks when in close proximity to others and distancing is not possible, and wherever this is requested."
